In reply to effexor xr for tamoxifen, posted by Barb L on September 9, 2001, at 21:03:23
Hi Barb,
Yes, I was suprised when my GP told me last week that effexor xr is being used as a non-hormonal treatment for hot flashes. I also found information on the web about this. Here is the first paragraph of an article on CNN and the link:"Researchers based at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, have found that a medication used to treat depression is also effective against one of the most disturbing symptoms of menopause."

Sea> Hope someone could help me. I have suffered from depression off & on for years now. Every time I get on something I get off it right away. Either I don't like the side effects or can't deal with the stigma. My brother has severe depression and I always hear myfamily put him down. I will not tell them I suffer from it too. I was prescribed effexor xr to help with the side effects of tamoxifen. Supposed to help with hot flashes. Anyone hear anything?
