Effexor XR: How low can you go?

Hi I started Effexor XR 7 days ago at 37.5 mgs. As soon as I started I felt a noticible difference...not irritable, happier, calmer. I love it. Im supposed to double the dosage after 7 days to 75 mg. but I really dont want to because I've been reading of the horrific withdrawals from it and figure the less, the better. Is it ok to stay on the 37.5 mgs if I feel good and will I have those horrific withdrawals once I DO go off? (and how WOULD I decrease the 37.5 dosage? Im taking capsules so I cant cut them in half.)
