I may have misclassified some of the medications described below.
1980 -- Tofranil 3 mos. Don't recall dosage.
Extremely resistant to taking any kind of drug at this time. No mood change.
Strange side-effect: sensation of crackling, line of lightning in my head which I could "see" but not with my eyes. I assume it was some kind of effect on the ocular nerve. No one understood what I was talking about.
1989-90 Pamelor, Elavil. Desipramine. Don't recall length of admin or dosage. No mood change.1990 Prozac. 60 mill. 18 months. At first positive mood change, but effect levelled off and RLS and suicidal ideation, among other side effects made it impossible to continue.
1990-2000
Numerous other kinds of stimulants, e.g., Ritalin, Dexedrine, anxiolytics, e.g., klonapin, lorazepam, non-Prozac SSRI's, e.g., Serzone, Paxil, mood stabilizers, e.g., lithium, anticonvulsants, e.g., Lamictal, and others categories, Celexa, Remeron, including a RIMA (reversible MAOI). Wellbutrin or Effexor may have helped a little. One of the last two drugs made me sweat sheets in the slightest heat.2000 Anafranil 3 mos. 200 milligrams.
Lifting of obsessiveness, depression. But weight gain, bloated feeling and appearance were intolerable.> I am interested in getting an idea of who, and how many, have tried traditional tricyclic a.d's. Basically, what med, dose, how long, and what positive/negative effects did it have.? In particular, if you can relate your story to newer generation a.d's..SRI's/SNRI's...etc. Thanks. Jay :-)
