For example regarding SSRI type ADs, if I was the prescribing pdoc, I would definitely try different ADs depending on the type of depression. Prozac and effexor are very different drugs.True they are very different drugs. However when all is said and done, I personally do not think there is much difference between these meds, with the exception of the MAOIs. Ive been on them all, at the highest dosages, except for MAOIs. Frankly I found high dose Effexor to be more stimulating than say, high dose Paxil, but not really that much more effective at treating depression.

??????? NO DIET RESTRICTIONS on MAOIs? Wow, I am surprised you are still alive. LOL Actually, I have heard about people like you, that do crazy things like eat pepperoni pizzas on irreversible MAOIs. But I dont think you are typical. I certainly wouldnt do that.If I went on Nardil and ate "anything" Id liable end up dead...or at least with a stroke. Then if I survived, Id end up being a burden to my parents even more than I already am, probably end up in a nursing home or something at 35 from a massive MAOI induced stroke.

> As to "extensive lifestyle modifications", I can't even begin to imagine what you mean. I would say that nardil gave me a down period in the afternoon when I became very sleepy and larger doses of nardil do effect sleep rhythms. But there's no way that I would say I had to make extensive changes in the way I lived. I have to make many more and more difficult changes with depression.Yeah well, to me the changes one needs to make to take MAOIs safely are "extensive." Maybe to you its not, but Im the kind of guy who doesnt do things halfway. If Im gonna do it, Im gonna do it the right way. That means following the MAOI diet. I like to eat...go out to eat a lot. And MAOIs dont exactly fit in well with that.
I mean to me, not being able to go to the local pizza joint and pig out on pepperoni pizza with oily, stringy, gooey cheese is a big sacrifice.
Thats why Im waiting for this Selegiline MAOI patch to come out, so I can take an MAOI and still eat pepperoni pizzas. LOL
