Cjay,
I have the same problems. My sleep schedule is always the first thing to go and then by the time the AD kicks in the crazy sleep pattern has a life of its own.
Here are some things that have helped me some of the time. One is forcing myself to keep to schedule. I try to be out doing something when that 2pm urge to sleep comes on so that I can't sleep. I use ambien or sonata to force myself to sleep at night. Or stay up around the clock. I make sure that the lights are completely out at night and that I am exposed to the sun during the day. I sometimes need to cut caffeine way down from what I normally use and be careful to keep meals on a consistent schedule. Taking the Prozac in the am helps too.
These things can work for me once the AD has kicked in even if they were useless just a few weeks earlier. So, even if you've done all these things, you should give it another try now. You may get better results this time. You may also want to try a different kind of sleeping pill. You don't say which ones make you hyper but there are a lot of choices.
Finally, try to hold the thought that you have six more weeks of this program to change your internal clock around. Being exhausted after your first week is too be expected. Congratulations on coming this far.
Jane, who hopes you don't notice what time she posted this.
