topamax+lamictal = less stimulant poop out?

Posted by JohnX2 on January 21, 2002, at 0:33:54

I don't get stimulant poop out (at least
from taking pseuedoepedrine nasal decongestants
during this tree pollen crap in Austing),
now that I am taking Topamax with my Lamictal.
Caffeine doesn't crap out either like it was
for me before.

I wonder if the cascaded modulation of AMPA
and NMDA glutamate receptors by Topamax and Lamictal
coupled with the increased GabaA conductance
by Topamax all work together to substantially lower
the stimulants tolerance/sensitization pathway.

This seems quite feasable to me from what I
have read about the addiction pathway.

It's curious that when I added Topamax on Lamictal
I got no typical glutamate side effects like blurry
vision, slurred speech, etc. Any other anti-convulsant
I added to Lamictal had the usual side effects. I wonder
if there is a interesting synergy when one combines
the two meds. Alas, I seem to be one of the 1st
guinea pigs...
