sleep from medication

My pdoc just gave me a starter pack of Effexor XR. He said that it will *hopefully* help me be less anxious and sleep better.
I'm wondering about the quality of sleep that patients get from Effexor XR. I've tried melatonin, and found that I had a lot of REM sleep but not any more restful sleep.
Anyone who can expand on the quality of sleep that they have had with medicinal help, please do.
