It encourages dopamine action in the frontal cortex. Jury still out on exactly how that occurs, but the idea with ADHD or ADD is that there is less brain activity going on in the frontal area than needed, and stimulants such as dexedrine increase activity there.

Yes it could help with social things and mild depression. Or it could worsen them. It all depends on what is part of ADD for you and what isn't.
