> Phenergan or promethazine is an antihistamine type drug used for nausea. I was taking it this week for stomach flu and I can't recall sleeping so well. Now the flu is long gone and I've taken it a couple times and slept well. It really helps me sleep in, like instead of waking up at the end of a dream I go back into that next nice deep sleep cycle. I slept until 11 am this morning which just hasn't happened for 6 months or so, years ago it was normal for me.

My Mom has had some Phenergan syrup and used it for sleep for a couple of decades. It *does* really put you out quite well! Benadryl will knock you out almost as well, but it seems to be a lot more drying (especially in the winter). Since it is structurally related to chlorpromazine (Thorazine-the antipsychotic), it has a mild tranquilizing action as well, but its dopamine antagonism is very, very slght. I don't know if I would want to take it *routinely* because of that. I remember that waking up in the morning was especially refreshing-you felt like you had slept for a couple of days-completely refreshed without being hungover or depressed feeling. Maybe it would be a good thing at bedtime if one was really stressed out?Mitch
