After what has been said in previous posts, did this most smart 'information' come from Ethiopia?
Nope, it came from good old USA, the most backward country in the civilized world with respect to (mis)information on 'benzodiazepines' & 'benzodiazepine-like drugs'. In a new thread below I'm going to speak a little about the last (benzo) 'wonder medicine', namely 'Xanax-XR' by Pharmacia & Upjohn, the recent literature about which disproves any 'ideas' about any tolerance whatsoever induced by 'alprazolam' (tolerance nil at least up to one year continued use in (at least two) clinical experiments). The 'new' maximal recommended dose for the said alprazolam (in its -XR avatar) is 10mg/day, which tells us a lot about the 'value' of the 'previous' maximal recommended dose (which was 4mg/day).

Disclaimer:
(1) of course for 'sensitive' Americans the information available keeps stating that the *maximum* dose of alprazolam-Xanax-Xanax-XR is 4mg/day so beware of the 10mg/day! ('cave ne cadas!').
(2) I confess that I don't personally like Ambien either (I too woke up too early the rare times I used it), but know of people for whom it is an 'invaluable' help in doses double or treble the aforementioned '*maximum* dose' of 10mg...

> The *maximum* dose for Ambien is supposed to be 10mg. I have had to augment that sometimes when I wake within an hour to two afer getting to sleep by adding 5mg. HOWEVER, I do not think that too many Pdocs (those that even LIKE Ambien, as mine does NOT) would want you to increase it above the prescribed 10mg. I have talked to many who have "upped" their dose, but I would caution you that although Ambien is not *supposed* to be addictive, one does develop at least a psychological dependence on it. Personally, I think Ambien to be a bitter-sweet deal. It will get me to sleep, but it does not keep me asleep, and I am one of those that it makes wake up early. I never get more than 3 hours of straight sleep, even on Ambien w/Tranzene. I have a wake sleep cycle of about 90 minutes after that initial 3 hours (if that!) sleep.
