> I have experience with combining prozac and wellbutrin and unfortunately my experience was bad, but rare according to my pdoc. I was on prozac alone for quite a while and doing OK except for some lethargy and weight gain. My pdoc added wellbutrin SR 300 mg/day and we dropped the prozac to 10 mg/day. After a couple of months on this combination I suddenly started having very debilitating fatigue and lethargy (could barely get out of bed and sometimes slept entire days away), muscle and joint pain, irregular periods, etc. My doc had a hard time believing that the prozac had anything to do with it but these things went away when I discontinued it and stayed on the wellbutrin alone. Since then I've started seeing info in the literature about how wellbutrin can interact with the metabolism of a lot of other drugs making them concentrate in your system. I'm thinking that this is what happened to me. It turns out that prozac is also known to have a lot of drug-drug interactions so, personally, I think this is a bad combination. Some of the other SSRIs don't have the same problem with drug interactions.
Thanks BLPBart,
This has been a difficult process for me. About a year ago I had Prozac "poop out". It had worked for about a year and that was actually the BEST year I had ever had. Since that time I have been to 4 different pdocs.....2 diagnosed Bipolar II and 2 diagnosed Unipolar Major recurrent. My symptoms are close to yours anerga/lethergy, moderate depression. I am currently on Depakote 750mg, Lamictal 100mg, Klonopin 0.5, and Ambien 10mg. Not a very complicated mix and I should go higher on Lamictal (even with the 2 times effect from Dep. - I am well beyond the rash stage). More than anything, I am looking for some energy. Your experience with Wellbutrin alone sounds impressive. Fortunately, at this point I have a pdoc willing to be reasonable. I will mention your experience when I see him on the 15th. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my post. Hope you continue to due well.
