In reply to How Safe Are Antidepressants?, posted by rjk on July 13, 2002, at 8:46:26
rjk,
You asked how safe Ads were. I was given a tricyclic antidepressant (desipramine) and after 5 or 6 days I began to hear a song on my head. The music is not pleasent. I now hear music 24/7 and there is no proven treatment for this disorder.
I have received reports from the FDA by using the freedom of infomation act and have a collection of adverse reactions to just that drug that is lenghthly. You can key in "psychotropic drugs, adverse reactions" and start with that to answer your question as to how safe theses drugs are. Or key in "antidepressants, harmfull" or some other phrase that is similar to that.
There are Drs. that speak out against these drugs. Peter Bregin being one of them. You could also key in,"thoery of chemical imbalance, quackery" and go from there. You could also key in," Psychiatry, quackery" and go from there. You could also key in ,"neuroleptic malignant syndrome" and go from there. You could also key in,"antidepressants, movement disorders" or TD.
You could also key in,"psychotropic drugs, deaths". I hope that I have given you some infomation that you can use to make an informed decision as to how safe ADs are.
Lou
