In reply to serzone and nardil ok??, posted by Lawrence S. on January 23, 2003, at 1:27:31
As djmmm pointed out, Serzone is quite a bit more potent regarding its AD properties-- trazodone is rarely effective (except in very high doses) and is normally used as a sleep-aid (well... actually a 'knock-yourself-out" aid, if you ask me, lol). Though they are both 5HT2 antagonist reuptake inhibitors (SARIs), I speculate that the use of low-dose trazodone for insomnia carries with it very little risk of serotonin syndrome and NMS, as partially backed-up by the following links:
http://www.serzone.com/safety_info.html
http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/nefaz_ad.htm
The nefazodone FAQ located in the tips section of this site also makes mention of the potential interaction.
I wasn't able to find any info (yet) regarding the specific P450 isozyme(s) involved in metabolism of Nardil... but I would *certainly* not attempt Serzone with Nardil if it so happens that the latter is largely metabolized through isozyme IIIA4,5,7. Serzone is a terribly potent inhibitor of this isozyme, even more so than Luvox.
Anyways, hope I was able to be of some help. Good luck!
