Remeron is an NaSSA (Noradrenergic and Specific Serotonergic Antidepressant). For Serotonin,it stimulates the 5-HT1A receptors enhancing serotonin release while blocking the 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors. 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors are supposedly involved with anxiety, nausea, sexual dysfunction (side effects of SSRIs). SSRIs stimulate these receptors instead of blocking them.
