I read this passage below on the http://www.coldcure.com/html/dep.html#caution
site. Now, could this be causing my pressure and bad feeling? Has anyone tried non glycine chelated magnesium and felt worse?
Or is the actual benefits that this person reports about are actually caused by the glycine?
DOes anyone have any info linking glycine to depression or bipolar?-----------------------------------------------
Magnesium Compounds That Work, That Are Ineffective, or That Injure
ON A PRECAUTIONARY NOTE, several amino acid chelates of magnesium (magnesium aspartate, magnesium glutamate and magnesium taurate) MUST be avoided in treating depression. Each of these amino acid complexes of magnesium has been reported to worsen depression. Aspartate and glutamate act as neurotransmitters in the brain and retina by facilitating the transmission of information from neuron to neuron. Too much aspartate or glutamate in the brain kills certain neurons by allowing the influx of too much calcium into the cells. This influx triggers excessive amounts of free radicals, which kill the cells. The neural cell damage that can be caused by excessive aspartate and glutamate is why they are referred to as "excitotoxins." They "excite" or stimulate the neural cells to death. Aspartate is a principal ingredient in the maligned Aspartame sweetener. To avoid aggravating depression with super-sweeteners, instead use Stevia. On the other hand, glycine or glycinate, another amino acid chelate, has been successfully used to treat bi-polar illness. Supplemental use of glycine at levels of 1 to 3 grams per day has been suggested as useful in the treatment of certain forms of bi-polar depression (manic depression). Possibly, magnesium glycinate has a double-whammy effect in depression.

> This doesn't specifically address your query, but I have found myself having a very difficult time with supplimental "items". I am trying Mag, Ca, Zinc right now and seem to tolerate it ok, for right now. I can't find a multi vit I can be happy with. Effects on stomach, headaches, achiness, overall unwell feeling and a list of other complains seem to happen with the hundred or so dollars of various forms and types I've tried. And forget the "mircle" herbs, amino acids, etc. sick as, well just ill on them.
> Many here use alot of suppliments and such. Most stuff makes me feel worse. When I go off them, the symptoms subside. I'm hoping the above mentioned new adventure will fare better. I'm stupid enough to keep trying and bleeding my wallet. Good Luck.
