After years of psychotherapy following sexual harassment and inherited depression, I went to a psychiatrist for drug therapy. Over the next 2 years I was given everything on the market and nothing worked. My doctor had saved Nardil for last given the severe dietary restrictions. It worked! I have continued taking it for the last 7+ years at 5 tablets/day with one exception. My doctor moved away and I decided to take myself off the medication. I worked the dosage down slowly. What I noticed within 2 weeks of arriving at a zero dosage was that my sugar cravings went away. I went to the aisles at the grocery store where I used to hang out (junk food and bakery); nothing looked good. I noticed that I was very thirsty.

When I started on Nardil, I gained 100 pounds in 2 years. During the brief time I stopped taking the drug I started losing weight easily. Unfortunately, when I went back on Nardil, the cravings came back full force.

It is not just about sugar; it is also about quantity. When I have a severe craving, it feels like there is not enough sugar in the whole store to satisfy it. I buy large quantities.

I have lost weight and gained it back. Now I am down 30. I wish I could find something that would reduce these cravings. I drink at least 100 ozs. of water/day and sometimes closer to 200. That does not seem to help. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them very much.

While Nardil is the only drug I take and I don't like taking drugs, I will stay on Nardil for the incredible relief it gives me. I pay $70+ a month and that is worth it also. I suffered from migraine headaches before I went on Nardil. The one great side effect is that the headaches stopped.

I used to be a marathoner and broke my foot just after I started taking Nardil. The combination of no exercise and the sugar cravings did not support my long distance running. I am walking regularly now so that I can be ready to run again when I have lost enough weight and it is safe to do so.

I look forward to messages that might give me suggestions about diminishing my sugar cravings.
