personally I think too much time and money is spent on the DSM and more money should go into mental health care. yes, dx is important, but to a degree. It's guess work anyway no matter how extensive the DSM gets. The real problem that not enough is known about the brain and how it works etc. and that is why it remains guess work.
I also think that the DMS feeds the stigma of mental illness with its categories etc. etc. etc. etc. Now we all introduce our frigging disorder before anything else - "Hi, I'm new to the group and I am a rapid cycling bipolar" "Hi, I'm to the new group and I have anorexia, purging sub-type"
and so on and so on.Rant over.
