Essence,
I'm a Mental Health Counselor who works with some ADD children and adolescents. I am not a doctor. I can only tell you what I've observed.
The youth who have ADD with whom I work with seem to benefit from stimulants.
Also I had a friend/colleague when I worked for a corporation doing web work who had ADD. He is an adult. He took concerta everyday for his ADD. He told me that Concerta was better for him than Adderal and Ritalin because he said that the Concerta lasts longer than the other two stimulants.
This is not medical advice. This is only observation so please don't take my word as the final word on this subject. Some people, even as adults, need to experiment with different ADD medications in order to get the best treatment results.
I wish you and your son the very best. I'm always so glad when I see parents who are willing to be there helping with their children's/adolescent's treatment. So many parents I see in the school where I work seem to be uninvolved in the treatment of their children. Your son is very lucky to have a Mom who cares as much as you do for him. It warms my heart just thinking about it.
I hope you and your child find the best treatment for his ADD. Good treatment can work wonders and parent involvement is key.
Bless You!
Simcha
