Yes, I can imagine it is driving you nuts! I hated it too. No, I was not any other medication whilst taking the Remeron, so it was clearly the culprit. And whilst the swelling went down right way, the pain and stiffness(esp. in ankles) did remain, but slowly reduced over a week or two. After 3 weeks, gone. I'm doubtful that Effexor would be causing the problem. I think it's just taking a while to get out of your system.
BTW, I work-out a lot, and that may have helped dissipate the swelling more quickly and reduce the stiffness too. - That was one of the reasons y I hated Remeron so much, I couldn't really work-out on it. Maybe try some gentle exercise? Check with your doc for other causes too.
