SSRIs vs MAOIs for atypical depression

Posted by Searchlight on October 2, 2003, at 0:13:53

I have tried one the tricyclics (in the 80s) and several of the SSRIs with some luck on Prozac. I have also tried a few other things to augment the SSRIs like Provigil (and considered Geodon but decided against it) and a combo of two SSRIs. Prozac was the only thing that helped (for a whopping 10 years- I was lucky!) But now on my 8th SSRI, I am sick of the anhedonia and severe lack of energy so I am considering an MAOI for real this time. I have always been weary of them (a close relative is on one and has been for 15+ years) because of diet and potential blood-pressure problems. Anyone facing the same dilemna? If so, would you please post your concerns and or advice, I would really like to hear others thoughts on this.
