ACtually Lamictal gave me some cognitive problems as well. But it also helped in some ways (attention). Weird, I know. I really think depression can have a major impact on cognition. With me, stimulants help with cognition, but they are extremely detrimental to my moods. I think most "mood stabilizers" affect thinking a great deal because they control glutamatergic activity and neuronal firing and whatnot. I mean, they essentially slow down and control much of the activity as far as I know. My pdoc is just like yours; he lets me run the show. Try adding in some more activating meds... For me high dose remeron and anything that alters norepinephrine (Reboxetine, Wellbutrin, Effexor) helps my thinking, and SSRIs and mood stabilizers affect it negatively. I'd say depakote and lamictal have given me the greatest problems when it comes to my thought processes.
