In reply to ADHD, Ritalin and Serotonin?, posted by karaS on October 19, 2004, at 18:26:48

So they found out the a inbalance of DA and 5-HTP causes ADHD symptoms, not just a deficiency in dopamine. So what? Now we know how to treat ADHD when the gov starts breeding DAT knockout humans!?
I think 90% of ADHD is (mostly)caused by deficeny of dopamine/overabundance of DAT.
Its funny how they found the stims still helped the DAT knockout mice.

you can tell the article is biased right from the first paragraph:

"Much concern has been raised over prescribing Ritalin® or other stimulants to control hyperactivity disorders in children. Relatively little is known about the long-term effects of these stimulants or how they alter brain chemistry."

UHHHH... yes we DO!! stimulants have been used for like 70 years in ADHD!!!! its the SSRIS that we don't know about the long term effects in.
