Nortriptyline doesn't just work on norepinephrine, it works a bit on serotonin (nowhere near amitriptyline) as well as other brain chemicals. It's an interesting drug, because it has both sedative and energizing properties. It's probably closest to being the most popular tricyclic for these reasons.
