paxil to lexapro swith - latent side effects?

Posted by celticmom on December 11, 2004, at 14:07:06

My DH "switched" from Paxil to Lexapro 6 weeks ago. He didn't have time to taper, so his pdoc recommended this approach. He had a rough couple of days, but after that things seemed fine. Now all of a sudden he has been getting headaches for the last week and has felt "panicky" for the past two days. He also has experienced dizziness and body aches/chills.

His pdoc said she doesn't believe that the headaches or flu symptoms are caused by paxil withdrawal because it has been so long since he stopped. She increased his Lexapro to 30mg to see if that helps control his anxiety.

His BP is fine, I was concerned because he is taking two meds for high BP and I was afraid that something was driving it up.

While it is possible he has a "bug", I doubt it since the symptoms seem to come and go (i.e. He was fine on Tuesday, but sick again on Wed).

Could it be that the headaches etc are withdrawal symptoms from the Paxil? Or an adverse reaction to the Lexapro?

Does anyone have any experience switching from one SSRI to another? Any input or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, CM
