For me Amitriptyline was the best TCA which didn't cause any problem in the sexual department.
I have heard similar stories and even found an article on the net stating Bupropion, nefazodone and amitriptyline are the only medications that don't harm sex.Amitriptyline is way far superior to bupropion and nefazodone in terms of efficacy, but unfortunately it is very sedating and anticholinergic.
But sedation will not be a problem after a couple of weeks and dry mouth lessens withing a couple of months. Surprisingly, I didn't gain any weight on it, although there was a stubborn craving for sweats. It didn't make me emotionally numb like the SSRIs do. Or I dare say it increased my sexuality and ability to enjoy sex with lifting the burden of depression very very effectively.
After six months of use, there were no noticable side effects however. It is all about getting to that point. I became tolerant to almost all of it's side effects within a month. It increased physical activity, sociablity, made me self confident, I enjoyed music better than ever while I was under the influence of AMIT.
Needless to say more, there is nothing bad I want to tell you about Amitriptyline. But resuming it once again and getting used to those sedative side effects is what makes me stranded. I want to find some off work days and do it.
Cardiotoxicity ? I don't care and remember the fate of Pen-Fen. Who knows how SSRIs will end up in that department?
Lol.
