hey! I'm in college now, and I didn't start taking stimulants until pretty recently...my add was just too much to handle after a while. Anyway, I take Adderall now...I think me being older when I decided to take it helps a lot; I can express how I'm feeling better than a child can, so this has helped get the dose right. 10mgs really isn't much, even for a child; your doctor seems to be very careful, which is good. Anyway, IF you decide that a trial of Adderall is the way to go, in a few weeks you might see: improved concentration, fewer mood-swings, better ability to stay "on-task," especially with things like homework. Side-effects can include: increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, worsening of tics (some claim that a few kids develop tics on stimulants that will go away when you withdraw the drug), depression (this seems more common in adults+at high doses, but if you withdraw a child from long-term use of a stimulant, the child may experience a pretty bad depressive episode)...some people get anxious or jittery; this might go away. VERY RARELY children and adults given amphetamines and other stimulants will have a psychotic reaction, even at the prescribed doses. Again, this is rare, and it can also rarely happen with weaker stimulants, such as RX diet pills (Adipex, Tenuate, Bontril, Didrex, etc.). I just thought I'd lay out what I know about Adderall for you. As the parent, it is your decision: do what you feel is most appropriate.
