Hi Neuropharm,
In my limited experience with this issue, the problem was potential liability. If your doctor prescribes a non-FDA approved medication and you get sick from it, he/she has no defense against a lawsuit. Most doctors simply cannot afford to take that chance these days.
I'd be glad to hear from others if they've had a different or more positive experience with this.
