Hi Maxime.
I feel as frustrated for you as I often feel for myself. I never catch a break. There's always something. Whatever can go wrong does go wrong. Damned drugs.
William Z. Potter, MD once suggested to me that I add only 10mg of desipramine to the MAOI I was taking at the time - clorgyline. Either he knew what he was doing or he was just covering his butt. Perhaps a small dose of desipramine would help.
Do you have any issues with using Remeron?
I have remained at 600mg of Trileptal for about a week. The cognitive and affective side effects are disappearing fast.
Don't forget about Keppra. It seems to have antidepressant and anticycling affects according to a few doctors I've corresponded with. I was going to add it to Trileptal if Trileptal proved inadequate.
I had a consultation with Kaufman. Funny experience. I had been interested in Keppra for awhile; his paper being one that I had taken into consideration. I had no idea who this guy was before I saw him. When I asked about Keppra, he asked me where I got that idea from. When he showed me a copy of his paper, I said, "Oooh. I read this." It must have been a nice stroke to his self-esteem.
I'll keep an eye out for things that I think might help you. Hang in there. Perhaps mifepristone (RU-486), an antiglucocorticoid that might reset the HPA axis and reduce cortisol would something worth for you to try. The NIMH is investigating it to treat bipolar depression. It has already proven itself in multiple studies to treat psychotic depression. It is a pain it the butt to get, but you only have to take it for one week. How cool is that? It is hypothesized that it resets the HPA and leaves you feeling better and perhaps more responsive to the medication you are taking. They will allow you to continue with Parnate. They only allow you 2 treatments per year right now. My guess is that I would need a maintenance treatment more often than that.
What tricks do you have up your sleeve?
- Scott
