Hi rjlockhart,
i'm sorry that you had the bad dream about an asylum- you don't need to worry about it. Unless you have a dreaded dx like i do (DID) it's really hard to become committed to a hospital. Committment is a legal thing- two drs need to agree that someone has a mental disorder AND is a danger to him or herself or to someone else.
Yes- i've been committed three times. All for being a danger to myself. Once after an OD when a part was really depressed. Then once it wasn't fair because i went into a hospital voluntarily and they used my own(very bad dr) dr there to commit me when it should have been two independent drs. i wanted to leave because they kept me in seclusion- it was torture for me not to talk to anyone or have anything except a mattress and blanket in a tiny 8x10 white room. The hospital looked nice outside of that room- was in a trauma disorders unit but it was so traumatic for me. They let me go on the last day of my insurance coverage.
Then they sued me for what the insurance didn't cover! Just happy to stay out of there,
kerria
