I don't know much about the eyes, but often people feel a little sedated for the 1st few days.
I also had to interject that my best advice is to buy a pill splitter (available at any pharmacy $2-5). They are SO much easier to use than an knife. And, honestly, I think that the idea of biting it is a little...um...wacky. Many meds take so nasty when broken, so you don't want that extra powder in your mouth. I don't think it would be dangerous, just icky.
Now that you have taken one, I would keep taking it for a set length of time (you decide, but I would say no shorter than 2 weeks). You may or may not see results right away, so don't get too discouraged.
Good luck w/ the new med. Maybe the birth control will help some too. I know a few people who find that it can help stabilize their moods (or make them worse, but let's not think abt that...)
Best,
EE
