In reply to Meds HAVE RUINED MY 4 YEARS IN COLLEGE, and CAREER, posted by Doug_Saving_The_Team on April 8, 2006, at 20:50:57
1. Your life isn't completely f*cked up. You have plenty of opportunities awaiting you.
2. Resist the urge to blame it all on meds. It may be that the meds weren't properly used, or maybe you should have explored an alternative like therapy.
3. You are on the lowest doses of Wellbutrin XL and Lex. I don't know what you were taking during college, but I have been functioning on ADs (sometimes better, sometimes not) for many years in an incredibly demanding profession that takes me all over the country into a variety of stressful circumstances. You name it, I've been on it, and I agree with you that many ADs severely disrupt cognitive function when you need such disruptions least. But you've got to be flexible, trying new things, even giving meds a break when necessary (and safe). Those opportunities don't end just because you've graduated. You've got a long work life ahead of you, and you should be giving yourself a break and developing some flexibility.
4. Perhaps the extreme feelings you are experiencing right now warrant a visit to your doctor to discuss something stronger. Or, since you've concluded that medication is responsible for your current situation, perhaps a few sessions with a therapist will allay your fears about permanent effects of ADs, as well as give you some guidance concerning your future.
