There seem to be 2 or three schools of thought for pain. The newest is GABA related, older is NE related and then there is dopamine which FMS docs are starting to explore. They all talk about the pain threshhold and a deficieny of a specific neurotransmitter. They'll probably find out there is some underlying cause like Glucocorticoids and depression/anxiety and they've been treating symptoms instead of addressing the problem.
