changing from Effexor XR to Lexapro

Posted by rachaelfaith on February 12, 2007, at 14:01:31

I've been on 75 mg of Effexor XR for the past 3 years. Because of the awful side effects and all, I've been trying to find a doctor who would help me switch for a long time- finally found one.

He wants me to keep taking my 75 mg of Effexor XR, then add 5 mg of Lexapro, taper to 37.5 mg of Effexor XR, and gradually go to 10 mg of Lexapro.

I've had major weight gain with the Effexor XR- 125 lbs to 160- will this continue and worsen with the Lexapro?

Is Lexapro also as difficult to discontinue?

Are the side effects of switching worth it?

So many questions. As a side note, I had no libido decrease on Effexor. Is this more likely with Lexapro, in your experience?

Me: Rachael, 19 years old, college student, history of panic disorder, generalized anxiety.

Thanks, everyone.
