Yes, you can go comatose from massive overdosage of benzodiazepines and then they have to reverse it with flumazenil at the ER and supportive care.

So, don't go there.

But mixing prescribed amounts of benzodiazepines isn't harmful. Both of those you mentioned do slightly different things anyhow, that's typical. I take Valium, but on the rare occasion I take a Xanax for immediate relief.
