Why does a med that worked not work again?

Hi
Meds poop out on me all the time. I had a really good response to Parnate at 100 mg. It was the best antidepressant for me. But it stopped working.
A year latter I tried it again, hoping it would work again. But I couldn't get past 10 mg because the side effects were so bad. How can that be? I was taking 10 times that amount and never had any side effects.
Prozac. Other than Parnate, I did have a good response to Prozac but it pooped out on me. I tried it again 2 years ago and it made me suicidal. Why? It didn't do that the first time.
It doesn't make sense.
