Oftentimes people feel better not taking certain drugs. Zoloft made me suicidal, which only ended when I stopped. Patients have the right to make their own decisions to take a drug or not.

For some people, the "ajustment phase" lasts forever. Doctors make it sound so simple, it isn't. The individual decison to take or not take a med is complex, and sometimes cannot be fully explained.

>What a crying shame to miss out on relief just >because a medication caused some discomfort at >first, or because someone didn't bother sticking >with it long enough to find a solution for a >distressing side effect.

What a shame that some people on these drugs had to off themselves because nobody would belive the side effects they were experiencing, and told them to just continue taking the drug, cause it can't be the drug. If a drug is making you worse, then it is making you worse. There is nobody on this planet who should tell you when you have, or have not had enough.

>"oh, well, if it doesn't feel good, you should >stop it right now."

She should do what she wants to do. Sometimes people feel crappy, but they feel worse on meds.

Well this is an open form, so I can reply to posts. I don't understand how some people have so much unwarrented trust in this system. We are dealing with a bunch of drugs with a repeatedly overinflated risk/benifit profile. We are dealing with a class of drugs that can make some people more suicidal not less. If anybody feels the same as the hell I did on zoloft, I would tell them to not take it a day longer than they want to.

Some people just do not respond well to SSRI's. You can sugar coat them, put them on a merry-go-round, stop them and start them repatedly. For some people it doesn't make a difference.
