med locomotive

Posted by g_g_g_unit on April 24, 2008, at 23:10:13

for the past two and a half years i've been on anti-depressants. the longest period i stayed on one was moclobemide for 6 months. after that i would remain med-free for months at a time before deciding i couldn't 'cope' anymore, then trial an SSRI and usually find the side-effects intolerable. i was just wondering if there was any danger to this pattern of going on and off ssri's so quickly. between december and now i've been on prozac, remeron and now lexapro with only the alloted break time to remain free of harmful overlaps. i am busy tapering off lexapro because i can't stand the headaches and was just wondering whether, before i try another, i should give my body a rest or something. someone mentioned in another thread i posted about lexparo that the memory problems, RSL etc. could indicate dopamine deficiency. i know i have a totally rudimentary/non-existant knowledge of brain chemistry but could the constant coming on and off of ssri's interfere with those levels? will they correct themselves after a period of time spent off meds?
