Excessive gabaergic activity can theoretically be depressogenic. Gaba has an inhibitory effect on stem cell proliferation which might impact synaptic plasticity in the longer term. On the other hand, some mood disorders are assoicated with low cortical gaba. If such is the case, you may be moving in the right direction. Studies are mixed on the effect of gabaergic anxiolytic augmetnation of antidepressant therapy. For instance, some studies show benzodiazapines augment SSRI's while other studies suggest they may interfere with the clinical action. Anticonvulsants, in general, are better antimanic agents than antidepressants. Many anticonvulsants cary a warning of increased suicide potential.
I personally found that long term use of taurine was slighly depressogenic for me. I noticed this less so with theanine.
Ideally, the marplan will help with anxiety in which case you may need less of the other agents.
