I've looked things up & it is probably norepinephrine that is mostly involved somehow with cycling - at least with me. When I changed from Celexa to Pristiq my daily mood changes were very distinct and happened more frequently. Plus I already take Wellbutrin (and Dexedrine). Dexedrine hasn't influenced my forever existing 3-5 day cycling, but it did start these weird wavy quick up & down feelings - mostly around hormone changes. I have wondered if they are somehow similar to the seizure stuff of abnormal excessive or synchronous neuronal activity (maybe between GABA & glutamate?) That's kinda what it feels like.
I'm pretty much damned either way. If my drugs may cause cycling, without them would my cycling or status would be worse...? I think I have been off of them in the past and it still was a problem. To try and go off of them would be hell because any little change throws me totally off.
WEIRD - One day I took my blood sugar (I feel like crap when I eat sugar, no diabetes, but I have hypoglycemia). My blood sugar actually DECREASED after I ate. And I tested it twice that day. Lunch was worse - from 101 to 86! Although I didn't really feel it. I'm pretty sure it was the dexedrine. (adrenaline, cortisol, glucagon, etc.) Usually it does the normal increase, so there is something else in my body where my glucose increase makes my nerves go crazy & I will kill for protein.
Also, the other day it was the afternoon & I hadn't eaten a whole lot that day. I was amazed that I actually felt pretty decent with some motivation. It was around 3 (usually my worst part of the day). I ate half a sandwich and my mood immediately went down. Although it is probably not repeatable with my randomness.
I also have always had food sensitivities that are worse in the morning (not real allergies). I have had my cortisol checked once & it was of course normal. Histamine is also higher in the morning (may make my food sensitivities worse). But morning is usually when I feel the best. (and sometimes also at night. My sister has a little bit of the sugar sensitivity but does not have depression. I haven't found anything online that describes how it makes me feel.
So where is my mutation :) Which receptors & enzymes are screwy. With everything I have tried (including supplements) & researched, I guess I to wait for the day that science will be more advanced. -That is if I can function or wait that long.
I just saw that Dexedrine increases the phosphoinisitol cycle. Somehow there is some sort of relationship to glucose/insulin. I gave up on studying because it was so complicated & depressing. There is also been some thought (I don't know if it is current) that long-term use of lithium & depakote may normalize phosphoinositol cycle activity. All stabilizers except Lamictal make me more depressed. Lamictal is my "stabilizer", but obviously it isn't working that great. I am more on the bipolar II of course - but just not-so-depressed & depressed about every 3-5 days.
Questions:
~Are there any other rapid cyclers (daily, weekly, etc.) that have similar probs? Obviously the HPA axis is screwy. We keep hearing that but I wonder when something will work. Even more difficult with women's hormones. Does anyone cycle about every 3-5 days?
~ I know dex is smoother, but I am wondering about trying ritalin. I usually take a some dexedrine for some motivation. Sometimes it helps & sometimes not. Thoughts?
