<<You may find more ideas to help you with biological sleep issues / insomnia on the Psychobabble alternatives link:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/alter/ and also this link chock-full of info http://itsnotmental.blogspot.com/2009/01/sleep-timing-of-melatonin-light-dark.html>>Thanks, what a great site.
Unfortunately, melatonin previously caused a severe depression so I am reluctant to try it again. But maybe I will pick a night where I have nothing going on the next day and see what happens.
I find it interesting that they suggest taking it 5 hours before bedtime. A psychiatrist not in my area who seems quite knowledgeable has his patients taking it at sundown which is a similar type strategy.
<<An Integrative medical doctor helped with our family member's profound sleep problem. Yes, including the non-restorative sleep, although you may need a sleep study to rule out things like sleep apnea. >>
I am glad to hear it.
I don't think I have sleep apnea because when I fell asleep at a social gathering of sympathetic folks, no one said I snored or seemed like I was gasping for breath.
<<In fact, there is no way my family member could have gotten off the psych med without the Integrative medical specialist suggesting a simple amino acid supplement, but that post from the itsnotmental blogspot pretty much covers it all. >>
Interesting.
By the way, I noticed that the website mentioned that some kids who were diagnosed with a mental illness might have first had sleep issues which could have caused the MI problems. I wonder how many kids have these issues who are being misdiagnosed like this?
I also wonder how many kids with autism or on the autistic spectrum are misdiagnosed as having Bipolar disorder?
Anyway, I have bookmarked the site for more reading.
Thanks again for suggesting it.
