You see the reason why Im so heavy now is partly because of the Nardil, and partly because I ate way to much while I was on it. Its like my stomach didnt realize it was full so I kept eating. I plan on asking my pdoc to start the nardil once I get down to 190-200, but I want to continue losing weight while taking it. Is this possible? Has anyone had any success with this?

Hi,
I gained a tremendous amount of weight due to atypical depression and Nardil. I agree that Nardil does something that seems to mess with our ability to tell when we are full. I could eat three peanut butter sandwiches in the evening, after dinner, and not even feel full.

I was able to lose much of the weight while continuing on Nardil though strenuous exercise and a low carbohydrate diet. Nardil seems to make me crave the sweet carbohydrates. I'm a carb addict anyway, but Nardil can make this much worse. By eating lots of protein and non-starchy vegetables, skipping all of the bread and sugar, the carbohydrate cravings are greatly reduced. You need to read labels and bypass almost all sugars and flour. Many fruits and fruit juices are packed with sugar also. It is kind of a tough diet at first, but the carbohydrate cravings can be greatly reduced even while on a medication like Nardil. I use supplements to replace some of the vitamins and minerals I miss on a low carb diet. I am almost never sick, maybe one cold a year. I use a multi-vitamin/mineral, 1800mg of EPA, 1200mg of DHA, 2500mg of Vitamin C, and a high dose of D3 when I'm not getting sunshine every day. I take 100mg of B6 daily, since Nardil depletes this vitamin. I also use psyllium husk to supplement the fiber lost on the low carb diet. Even though fiber has carbohydrates, it doesn't count on low carb and makes your digestive track work a lot better.
Be well,
Jedi
