Hi, I am a fellow medical professional with a history of severe anxiety that at times in my life has lead to extreme depression in very stressful times (particularly over 10 years of university study and thesis research). There is a strong familial history of mental illness in my immediate and extended family. I have been medicated in some form for 15 + years now. Originally, over a decade ago, I was on fluoxetine for my " first enforced break" from patients and work, this Rx did not aid my anxiety issue even after 6-12 months of use and the my Psychiatrist at the time prescribed large doses of valium/benzo's to help, which it did but then over the course of the next 2 years I was well and truly addicted to Benzo's and my tolerance levels to this drug were, by the end at elephant sedating levels!! 4 Years later with a new Psychiatrist during my Masters studies I was prescribed venlofaxine (300mg) and slowly reduced the Benzo's over 4-6 months and then no longer required them. I remianed on Effexor up until 2 months ago when routine bloods suggested drug induced Hyperlipidemia ( no familial history of high lipids whatsoever), current psychiatrist advised stopping the venlofaxine immediately which I did.....and would not wish on anyone, the discontinuation effects are horrible for the first 2-4 weeks. Now placed on Meclobamide 300mg BID. Weight now 110Kg ( was 137 kg) in space of 8 weeks with no change to lifestyle. ( I don't drink and I have always exercised at least twice weekly). My current problem: the anxiety on the reverse MAOI is really bad now, second child due in 2 weeks, and I am bouncing off the walls. Dr also tried me on seroquel as an evening dose....not good...got tardive dyskinea and almost psychotic events with this drug so since ceased. Then prescribed Imovane (hypnosedative?) for nights which have helped with the insomnia but I am having to take 1/2 tbs once or twice in the day to simply cope, raise my daughter, care for my heavily pregnant wife and run my business. Is there any med that may be useful in conjunction with Moclobemide to help with the constant severe anxiety I am experiencing as a side effect of this med?. PLease help, my family need me!!. Thank you,.....( Dr D.)
