I've been using Isocarboxazid since phenelzine pooped out roughly 8yrs ago. Hit the 'official' top dose of iso. Nothing, so my doc started to combine/augment. Everything has helped but only to an extent. Then my new current doc upped the dose to to 90mg then augmented. Nothing ever really made a difference till he added Amitriptyline. Helps me get a good night sleep. After a couple months it kicked in. But not enough. My doc is reluctant to increase the ami but he might exchange 150mg Bupropion for an extra 50mg Amitriptyline.
Most of the time it was also taking 50-100mg Quetiapine. Anyway last visit he said let's re-look at what we already have. So he put the iso up to 110mg and Quetiapine up to 250. It worked! But it's early days.
Just in case people can't understand how a doc can prescribe high doses and even drugs not meant for your disorder? My process can write a script as off label. Example: in USA Bupropion is a very commonly ad. But here in UK it's only licenced for smoking cesation. But can be given to a patient 'off lable'. Same with doses. Can even use drugs not available here simply by his ward ordering and paying for it. In want just a small amount of alprazolam. Just 10 per month for quick anxiety relief. For some reason he declined.
But he would happily order me piracetam if they end up banning nootropics.> - Scott
