i think back when the state hospitals were still in widespread use, "Schizophrenia, in remission" was a fairly common diagnosis upon discharge. and now..
-sigh- here in the US, where I live, I think its more likely to get stuck with "Schizophrenia, residual type" than anything else. Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective are now understood (by consensus...) to be lifelong, requiring non-stop treatment, etc...
so, even if some of the so-called 'residual symptoms' are probably drug induced (say, sleeping too much, mild social withdrawal, etc.), the tendency seems to be that sort of diagnosis, because...
its not the 60s or 70s, lol. I think its stupid, but it lines up with what Szasz writes about psychiatric treatment and such reflecting dogma, ideology, norms...not -medicine- or science. and yet...
