Here's an overview of the process. http://www.mind-boosters.com/chapter_13.html

Has the SAMe been working for a while and then started making you irritable? Are you already taking B6, B12 and folate? See this post for some good info re someone else's experience: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20030402/msgs/216302.html

See this post re taking B vitamins with SAMe: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20020416/msgs/103466.html

Magnesium makes a difference for me in whether tyrosine and TMG make me irritable. It was also someone else's experience with TMG, which is why I suggested it. But your situation may be different or more complicated than that.

>I also have calcium magnesium (no calcium on its own, does that matter?)

Yes, it might. What kind of magnesium is in your cal/mag combo? Magnesium oxide is pretty typical, in which case you're not actually getting much magnesuim. Magnesium oxide is not very absorbable but is cheap which is why you see it so often in combos and multis. To really see if magnesium might help with that irritability, I'd suggest taking a more absorbable type separately and with the SAMe.
