In reply to L-Lysine for Epstein Barr and yeast problems?, posted by spriggy on September 18, 2005, at 17:41:12
I don't know if L-Lysine is good for Barr Epstein or yeast problems. I had heard that it is good for things like cold sores and herpes virus (which is what, I think, causes cold sores).
I had found what looks like quite a comprehensive, natural anti-yeast protocol in a book that I got last year "The Diet Cure" by Julia Ross. I have never tried it because I have not had a problem with yeast. Here is the protocol, if you are interested.
Upon rising: 2 capsules of a combination of good bacteria - lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus, on an empty stomach (to restore and maintain normal intestinal flora - the good bacteria).With meals:
1 to 2 capsules of grapefruit seed extract (kills yeast but is nontoxic to humans);
1 capsule of biotin (1,000 mcg) (bioton, apparently helps stop sugar cravings and has a surprisingly inhibitory effect on yeasts);
2 capsules or a small clove of garlic (garlic inhibits microbes of all kinds, including yeasts and parasites); and
oregano oil (good against a wide range of fungi and yeasts and has antiparsitic properties)All the supplements would likely be available at any health food store or could be ordered from a health food store in the net.
Anytime: drink pau d'arco (apparently comes in tea form and is a South American herb that contains 3 anti-yeast compounds that are active against Candida albicans and fungi) and ginger tea (inhibits both fungus and yeast while promoting the growth of friendly bacteria, plus it is yummy and really good for nausea and indigestion)
