I think that candida overgrowth causes allergies and chemical sensitivities over time due to "leaky gut" syndrome. So one would be more likely to react to the mercury fillings.

I had my blood examined at the Huggins Lab (way back in 1990) and my reactivity to mercury, silver, tin, and copper were off the 0-9 scale. I think normal was 0-1, with 2-3 being acceptable. Any reading above 3 was considered significant. I had "9" reactivity to mercury and a host of 7 and 8's for other elements found in fillings. The severity on this scale goes up like the richter scale.

Anyway, the lab people (who didn't do the dental replacement work) said these results were some of the highest they had seen and they would expect someone with these readings to suffer from depression, confusion, chronic fatigue, anxiety, etc... and most likely be in the hospital - or dead.

It happens that I had spent most of the previous year on psych wards at three different hospitals and was barely coping when not in the hospital. I also had chronic hematuria (blood in the urine). The VA and urologists could not find a cause. Then a holistic doctor realized it was systemic (all my mucous membranes were inflamed) and that blood in the urine was just a symptom of a widespread problem.

Anyway, long story short, I had the metal-mercury fillings replaced and in no time the blood in the urine went from obvious to occult, disappearing completely after a few years. I also experienced more energy than I knew how to cope with, resulting in a long battle with anxiety that still continues.

I spent the year following the dental replacement work in and out of VA hospitals trying to deal with the new-found energy and anxiety.

As a side note: certain people react to the mercury fillings more readily. The saliva of type "A" individuals, and "pitta" types in aryuvedic medicine, reacts more with the fillings. Higher strung types seem to have more problems with mercury.

I was skeptical throughout the procedure. I was deeply depressed and didn't expect anything. After my fourth and last visit (over about 2 weeks), I nearly floated out of the dentist's chair. I had never felt so light. My head was so clear, and perception so lucid, it was scary.

I took notes at the time (have to dig for them now) of all the immediate improvements in my health - increased anxiety being the only downside. The changes were real - and lasting.

However, I didn't help the situation by turning to alcohol for relief from the anxiety. At first I felt like climbing mountains, yet instead, dove into an alcoholic tailspin, with cycles of benzo use and abuse that lasted for several years.

I think Huggins wrote a book on mercury amalgam filling replacement. I haven't kept up on the topic since those days are happily behind me.
