I've tried taurine a couple times, only for a few days each time. I am always scared of normal or high doses at first so I think I was on the conservative side. From what I remember it was somewhat relaxing but also energizing at the same time in a sort of pleasant way.

For sleep though, I don't think so.

I had also tried tyrosine and it seemed to cause too much nervousness along with the mood boost, or it pooped out real fast...when I added taurine to try to calm it down, it did calm it down but also seemed to make it work a lot better in terms of mood boost.

Overall though I've just never had much stick-to-it-ness with amino acids. Not sure why. It just seems so hard to get it right in terms of dosing, timing, combinations, and longterm performance.
