Thanks, ClearSkies. I agree a younger dentist might be the way to go. On the other hand, I'd like him/her to have some experience... Do you know of any holistic dentists close to New York City?
Thanks
Liz

As nice as the guy is, he is of the old-school mentality and thinks taking out an amalgam filling is no big deal. I am therefore looking for a holistic dentist in the New York City area who has experience removing amalgam fillings. I just don't know what I am supposed to look for. I found Dr. Mark Breiner in Connecticut http://www.wholebodydentistry.com/ and it seems like he knows what he is doing, but how can I be sure?

> An old-school dentist, indeed. Try any dentist under the age of 40 for newer, improved filling techniques. For esthetics alone, most dentists are going with resins or composite types of fillings and taking out the amalgam fillings, which have a life of about 10 to 15 years anyways before they start to crumble. If there's more decay than tooth and greater restoration is necessary you can get a gold onlay or inlay (more malleable than other metals). If you're needing total tooth replacement then you could consider implants, or bridge restorations.
