Lamdage22,

According to WebMD, several studies have shown that niacin can effectively raise good HDL cholesterol and effectively reduce triglycerides and that it can also modestly reduce bad LDL cholesterol. Niacin, however, is not without risks when taken at the doses needed to affect cholesterol numbers. Here's a link to the WebMD article:

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/lifestyle-guide-11/supplement-guide-niacin

The WebMD article only briefly mentions the flushing that niacin can cause, but I can say from personal experience that if you're susceptible to the flush, it can be extremely uncomfortable. I sometimes get flushing with the 250 mg of niacin that I take (even when taking my niacin at three separate intervals each day), but it's not usually too bad.

Have you ever taken niacin? Also, did your doctor recommend anything for controlling your cholesterol and triglycerides?
